Trust is the invisible oil that allows any social machine to work. Without trust, the machine locks up and stops working.
- Data brokers
- Spam phone calls
- trust in public institutions, private companies that work in the public interest
- trust in relationships
Trust is important because it helps us feel safe and confident in our relationships with other people. When we trust someone, it means we believe they are honest, reliable, and good. This makes us feel comfortable around them and allows us to be ourselves. Without trust, relationships can be difficult and stressful because we may not be sure if we can rely on the other person. So trust is important for building strong, healthy relationships.
It’s vital for all of us, as individuals and as the humans behind companies, to be trustworthy and actively seek trustworthiness, and be forthcoming and honest. Especially today, when so much information and content is written by machines, by companies and organizations trying to sell you something.
Trust lets us have nice things. (i.e. honor system) Without trust, nice things go away.
